Medication Management

Medications will be administered only as follows:

•  Prescription Medicationsneed to be in the original container with the child's name, physicians name, and a recent date. I will only administer the drug at the dose, duration, and method prescribed. An authorization does not need to be completed for each prescription if the dosage and times of administration are printed on the container by the doctor or pharmacy.

•  Non-prescription Medicationmedicine can be given only for the dose, duration and method specified on the manufacturer's label for the age and weight of the child. All non-prescription drugs not on the list below need a written authorization from the child's physician:

•  Antihistamines

•  Non-aspirin fever reducers

•  Non-narcotic cough suppressants

•  Decongestants

•  Anti-itching ointments or lotions

•  Sunscreens

Medications will be stored on the top shelf in the pantry. Medications administered to children will be recorded in the child's medical log. Medications will be disposed of in the outdoor trashcan.
